Saint Peter’s University Hospital Nationally Recognized with Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade of ‘A’ for Spring 2022
New Brunswick, N.J.— May 10, 2022 – Saint Peter’s University Hospital received an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for Spring 2022, a  national distinction that recognizes Saint Peter’s achievements in protecting patients from preventable harm and error in the hospital. This was Saint Peter’s fourth time in a row, having received a Safety Grade of ‘A” during Fall 2021.

“It’s an honor to be recognized with Leapfrog’s highest safety grade,” said Leslie D. Hirsch, FACHE, president and CEO of Saint Peter’s Healthcare System. “So many individuals at Saint Peter’s are responsible for the efforts that got us to this point today. Their unwavering commitment to deliver quality medical care without compromise and under the most challenging conditions is the reason Saint Peter’s has become a destination for exemplary health care in central New Jersey.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“I thank the workforce and leadership of Saint Peter’s University Hospital for sustained commitment to patient safety, day in and day out,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “An ‘A’ Safety Grade is an outstanding achievement, and one that is not possible without a 24/7 effort by the entire healthcare workforce to protect patients from harm. This community should be proud.”
